Celebrating Easter in Isolation from A-Z

Image
Easter is two weeks from today, but it looks like we're still going to be in isolation on that day.  All around the United States and the world, governments are constraining their citizens to home with "shelter in place" orders and quarantines.  Our entire lives have changed in a very short amount of time as the entire world reacts to Covid-19.  Unfortunately, our Easter Sunday traditions are going to have to change as well. A time of great change is also a time of new memories and traditions.  Many of the things you already do can be slightly modified to make them acceptable for quarantine time.  Other things can be different, but still amazing.  It's also a good time to talk about history and some of the challenging Easter Sundays throughout time.  Draw near to your family and make some great memories with this A-Z list! In many churches, Easter morning service includes some sort of "Passion Play"  (not affiliated with the church)...

Passover 2017

Image
After a month of Passover posts ( 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ), it's finally Passover time!  This year, we had friends over, a family of six.  It was a bit crazy with seven kids under eight, but so much fun. Supply List - 1 leg of lamb - matzah crackers - bitter herbs - grape juice - asparagus - charoset ( recipe ) -  hard plastic tumblers - blue tablecloth - dinner plates for 12 We started the evening with a slide show and storytelling time of Exodus, using pictures from  this  website.  The kids did a great job listening and were very engaged the whole time. source After we heard the story of the Passover, we sang "I Will Sing Until the Lord."  (here's the  lyrics and music without video)  My kids and I practiced the song all week to get ready for Passover. The kids spent some playing while the Moms finished the dinner.  For dinner, we had a roast lamb leg, unleavened bread (matzah) with horseradish and charoset for dipping, and asparagus.  B...

A Christ-Centered Passover (part 3)

Image
It's Wednesday, and it's time to look at Passover again!   Part 1 was a general introduction to Passover traditions and Part 2 was all about Jesus.  This week, I'm going to share a sample script that can be used at a Messianic Passover Seder (say-der). Just a reminder, the text from this script comes from the booklet I wrote years ago.  A really easy way to think of the Passover Seder is to approach it like a play with four acts based on the four cups (explained in Part 1).  I have linked a PDF at the end of this post with the same text for ease of printing. I think it's really important to say that it's not absolutely necessary to do this script exactly as written.  It's also not necessary to do all the elements expressed in this Passover Haggadah.  Some years, we've done a full Passover with all the details.  Others years, we've simply read the Exodus story and eaten lamb and matah.  It just depends on our circumstances any particular year. ...
