Hamilton Gift Ideas for Homeschoolers
One of the things that 2020 has given us this year was Hamilton the Musical on Disney Plus! Suddenly, a niche Broadway musical that was only on most people's peripheral is now on center stage! No longer do history and theater nerds need to be content with the Hamilton soundtrack, now they can watch the pro-shot every day if they want. If you have someone in your life, who isn't throwing away their shot to watch this musical as many times as possible, then you'll find this list very helpful. Click on the colored text to read more about the products. Also, if you're on Pinterest, please pin the image in this post for others to enjoy.
Since we're a homeschooling family, I wanted to add a few extra tips specifically for families like ours! If you're learning more about life during the colonial and revolutionary war years, I highly recommend the Townsends channel on Youtube. He and his team show you how different things were done in that time period. I found his "bread without yeast" video particularly interesting.
Revolutionary War Soldier Uniform Hoodie
I've noticed a lot of advertisements for these Colonial Hoodies since the release of Hamilton. I love that they're both a costume for the theater person and "historical" enough for the nerd. When winter calls for something snuggly, this sweatshirt should be nearby.
If your Hamilton fan hasn't read the biography that launched a revolution, then you should get the book for them so that they can! Pair with some English tea and a cheeky coffee mug for a great gift pack. You could even add some imported English chocolate.
Whereas my last book focused on the history, this one is all about the musical. It talks about Lin-Manuel Miranda's inspiration to write the musical and his journey to get it onto the Broadway stage. Add some fan-inspired merchandise to round out the gift.
Give your little one their own Alexander Hamilton doll to snuggle and boss around. For collectors, this company makes other historical dolls, including Beethoven, Tesla, or Sherlock. They're machine washable, so they're fun for all ages and would make a good teacher or white elephant gift.
With the popularity of Hamilton, I'm sure we'll see an uptick of Revolutionary War. This game features 52 historical figures from the late 1700's and encourages players to learn more about them. There is a lot of strategy involved, so the recommendation for this game is 10 and up. It sounds perfect for homeschooling or gaming families.
Who Was Alexander Hamilton book
Elementary aged kids who are interested in the historical person of Hamilton will enjoy this biography. Part of the "Who Was" series, it and similar books are great for kids in 3-5th grade. Be sure to also check the library for these titles if your child really enjoys reading them.
Safari Ltd Continental Army toob
Your kids can enjoy reenacting major battles from the Revolutionary War with these miniature colonial army soldiers. They would fit very nicely in a Christmas stocking and most of them fit inside of Easter eggs too. Be sure to grab the British Army toob, also!
If your child likes to dress up like a revolutionary, they'll need this toy gun! The boys are really big into hunting right now and would love a gun like this. It is a pop gun, so it gives off a "real" shotgun sound when the trigger is pulled. Don't forget your Tricorn Hat and Toy Drum!
Piano students young and old, who love the music of Hamilton will enjoy this music book. Encourage the reluctant learner to play "dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah, dah" (king's chorus) or challenge more accomplished pianists to take on the entire musical.
Adult coloring is still quite trendy, and this Hamilton one would be a good activity to do, while you watch the musical for the 1,000th time. Add these adorable "Hamiltones" coloring pencils for a complete gift or switch out the silly ones for a nicer set.
Professor Noggin is talked about a lot in my homeschooling and gameschooling as a good resource for families. They have trivia cards for all of American history, many of the sciences, animals of different biomes, and great works of art. Grab the Revolutionary War cards by clicking on the big text above.
If you're favorite part of Hamilton the musical is the "Burn" scene, then you need to get this vintage reproduction lantern. It's battery operated, so you don't have to worry about burning down your actual house (or the letters your cheating husband wrote you). It's also great for black powder reenactments with kids.
